My aromatherapy products are an expression of my My interest and study of the healing application of essential oils began several years ago, leading to the blending of oils for individuals with specific needs and desires for their physical, spiritual and emotional wellbeing. I soon realized that true aromatherapy was not well understood by most folks : that it is more than using a cream or burning a candle that smells nice. It is about marrying the individual's sense of smell to those plant oils that have the right biochemical makeup to assist that person with his or her current needs......and there's actually a great deal of science behind it. It may be an atmosphere you want to create, or a physical condition that needs healing assistance. Or, perhaps you are on a spiritual path and want those essential oils that can help on the journey. You can also enlist the helpful qualities of the oils when dealing with an emotionally charged situation and want to balance those emotions. So I branched into making products that can be used every day -- soaps, lotions, salves and such -- with a goal of educating as I go; to enable those who wanted to learn more about how to use essential oils at home and at work, and to encourage the wellbeing of those who simply want to use the products appropriate for them without having to mix anything of their own. My formulas - my own blends of essential oils - all have a particular 'wellbeing' reason for their composition and I try to attach to each product a description of this reason. For me, the whole idea and the importance of these products is that they contain pure plant oils and other natural ingredients that have life-enhancing benefits, apart from the fact that they smell good or can clean, protect and nourish our skin and freshen our homes and offices. Each plant, tree, root, flower, seed, etc. that these oils are extracted from has its own vital, healing properties. Some oils smell wonderful - and some do not. Plus, everyone's idea of 'wonderful' is unique. This is where skilled blending comes in. Aromatherapy is an art and a science. Understanding the chemical makeup of an oil is the foundation of forming an effective blend. The art is in the combining to produce a synchronistic, appealing solution to a set of needs and desires. Sometimes, an unpleasant-smelling oil has just the qualities you need for an unguent, and the delightful challenge is in blending it with others that will complement it and produce a pleasant, effective result. Along with the line of sort-of 'off-the-rack' products you'll see here, I have developed unguents and sprays that have helped various conditions, like the pain of shingles, the manic side of bi-polar disorder, seasonal affective disorder of winter, assorted emotional disturbances and others. In my practice, I frequently blend specific oils for an individual client. As you look through the offerings in my store, you'll see I've tried to describe the intention and some of the effects of the oils. Some oils on the market are derived from animals and whether or not they are expensive, legal or available, from a moral standpoint I do not use them. Animal oils like musk and civet cause pain and death to the animal when being extracted. These oils are mostly banned now, although they are often still used by large, corporate perfume companies. You'll also see Emu oil on the market and I am very much against this. With Scents & Botanicals, I am striving to bring you products as close to nature as possible, because that’s where our body and soul resonate the most. Under normal conditions, Scents & Botanicals will maintain their potency for at least a year, often much longer. The labels on my products list what they contain. Names of some ingredients can be confusing and puzzling at times, seeming perhaps to not be natural. So I've included here a listing of some of the least-understood ingredients.
